Qanat Trio
Qanat Trio is a contemporary jazz ensamble from Italy
The project was born out of a desire to create a collection of original compositions influenced by the contemporary European jazz scene, often referred to as chamber jazz, and classical music.
Qanat Trio presents a refined repertoire of original compositions that blends chamber jazz with classical influences. Led by pianist Federico Termini, with bassist Damiano Vitrano and drummer Ruggero Caruso, the trio brings together extensive international experience from both Europe and the United States, crafting a unique and evocative artistic voice.
Pianist, composer, and master’s student at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, Federico Termini, has spent the past few years researching and composing music. His studies draw inspiration from key figures in modern jazz such as John Taylor, Brad Mehldau, and Shai Maestro, while also exploring classical music to reinterpret and infuse its concepts into his own work.
The trio’s repertoire includes original compositions alongside arrangements of pieces by Ravel and Fauré. These works are influenced by some harmonic progressions of Brahms or explore cyclic patterns reminiscent of John Taylor’s style and Shai Maestro’s innovative approach. The trio has had the pleasure of performing in prestigious settings such as the concert series organized by Keep An Eye Foundation in Amsterdam, PJPJ Festival in Voorschoten, Sicily Jazz Festival, Europa Fest in Bucharest, Freedom Jazz Festival in Italy, and Jazz in Sardegna.
In August 2024, they recorded their debut album at Studio 150 Bethlehemkerk in Amsterdam.
